As a songwriter at Venice School of Music, The Ascap Experience is an important event you should all know about it. It's important to belong to a Performing Rights Organization. If you don't know what a "PRO" is (performing rights organization) - in short they collect your royalties for the performance of songs you write. This includes digital and traditional such as radio or TV. The PRO's in the USA are Sesac, ASCAP or BMI.
When I began my career as a songwriter, some of my most helpful guidance came from with my relationship with ASCAP. I was able to attend many workshops and events that helped me grow as a songwriter. Most importantly, I was accepted into a 12 person workshop known as the Lester Sill Workshop which put me in the room to learn with great songwriters like Kara Dioguardi (Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne) & Linda Perry (Christina Aguilera, Pink, 4 non-blondes). It changed my life!
