Another important point, , when you study singing in a college environment as I once did, you often discover that most classes, excluding the private lessons, are conducted in a group format. For instance, during my own educational journey at NYU and USC, I found that approximately 5 out of 6 classes each semester were held in a group setting. This prevalence of group instruction reflects the reality of being a musician, where collaboration and teamwork are inevitable components of the artistic process. Learning to work effectively in a group not only cultivates your individual skills but also prepares you for real-world scenarios where musicians collaborate with others non-stop. Whether in a choir, a band, or any ensemble, the ability to harmonize with fellow singers and musicians is crucial.

Group lessons also allow you to practice blending your voice with others, which is a fundamental skill for any aspiring singer. So basically, Group Singing Classes and Group Voice Lessons are not just a cost-effective alternative to private instruction; they are a vital part of your development as a singer and musician. Embrace the opportunity to learn in a collaborative environment, where you can grow alongside your peers and build the confidence and skills necessary to excel in your musical journey.

Our Singing Classes focus on all styles of music and we especially cater to adult singers looking to build community. Our Singing for Fun Class has been running since 2020 and the list of new friends made grows by the day!

How will singing lessons help me?

If you've never had a voice lesson before, here are a few things I can help you with in your voice lessons:

  • Help you to Build Vocal confidence:

I love to help you work through your fears as a vocalist, as I understand how profound and impactful these fears can be on your journey. The experience of feeling inadequate or discouraged can often stem from negative feedback received during formative years. Perhaps you had a choir teacher who crushed your confidence by telling you that your voice wasn't very good. Such comments can linger in the mind forever, causing us to experience tension in our throats resulting in a restricted or even monotonous tone.

Or maybe, even more painfully, you faced similar criticism from a parent. When someone we look up to, especially a family member, expresses doubt about our talents, it can be devastating. The emotional weight of those words can create a fear that stifles creativity and silences the voice that longs to be heard. It's truly terrible to carry that burden, and many aspiring singers find themselves grappling with self-doubt as a result.

In our work together, we will explore these fears and the roots of your vocal insecurities. It’s essential to acknowledge the influence of past experiences while also recognizing that they do not define your current abilities or potential. By reframing these negative experiences, we can transform them into motivation for growth and improvement.

I will guide you through exercises designed to build your vocal technique and enhance your confidence. We will focus on developing a strong foundation in vocal skills, which will empower you to express yourself more freely. As you gain control over your voice, you will also learn to silence the inner critic that has been holding you back.

Moreover, I encourage you to share your thoughts and feelings about your vocal journey openly. This dialogue is crucial, as it allows us to address any lingering fears directly. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we can work together to dismantle the barriers that fear has erected.

As you begin to see progress and experience the joy of singing without fear, you will find that your voice is not just an instrument, but a powerful means of expression. Embracing your unique sound can be liberating, and it is my joy to witness this transformation in you. Remember, every great vocalist has faced challenges and doubts, but overcoming them is part of what makes their journey so inspiring.

Together, we will embark on this path of discovery, allowing your voice to flourish and shine, free from the shadows of past negativity. Your fears do not define you; rather, they are stepping stones towards becoming the vocalist you aspire to be. Let's embrace this journey and celebrate every small victory along the way!

  • Expand Vocal range:

Does your voice feel like it's got some bumps in it? Feel like a frog croaking in the high notes? Perhaps you had no idea that you can learn to sing higher and lower by exploring your god-given instrument. The human voice is an extraordinary tool, capable of producing a wide array of sounds and pitches, yet many singers struggle to reach their full potential. If you find that your vocal range feels limited or that certain notes come out with an unwanted roughness, it’s essential to understand the mechanics for this. There can be multiple factors at play, including tension in the shoulders, weak breath support, or a lack of awareness of how to warm-up accordingly. Let's delve deeper into the anatomy of your voice and figure out why you're stuck! With consistent practice, vocal exercises, and perhaps guidance from a vocal coach, you can gradually expand your range and improve the overall quality of your singing. This journey not only enhances your ability to hit those higher notes with ease but also strengthens your lower register, allowing for a more versatile and expressive vocal performance that carries over to speech in daily life as well.

  • Breath Support:

Perhaps you're working on your breath in many facets of life, delving into the profound connection between breath and well-being. This exploration might manifest in various practices such as breathwork, where specific techniques are employed to enhance your respiratory capacity, promote relaxation, and facilitate emotional release.

Public speaking is another arena where breath plays a crucial role. The ability to project your voice, manage anxiety, and convey confidence often hinges on your breath control. When addressing an audience, the quality of your breath can significantly indicate the emotions you possess while speaking.. Understanding how to control your breath effectively can help you to create the tone you desire.

Regardless of the context, lessons in any of these areas provide an invaluable opportunity to check in with yourself. They offer a structured environment to explore the reasons behind why your breath may feel locked or restricted. This feeling could stem from various factors, including stress, anxiety, or even physical tension in the body. Identify the blockages and find the voice you've been searching for.
